Veoh is a video distribution company founded by Dimitri Shapiro that breaks into the video social sharing in 2006. Unlike other YouTube and other social sharing video sites, the company distributes video clip content in its original format, rather than transcoding to a lower bandwidth and lower quality version. Due to this technology, a software called Veoh Player software is required to download videos, or view some videos in full quality. The website also offers a YouTube-style Adobe Flash video player that can be run from within a web browser. Videos shorter than 45 minutes are available through this canal, while longer ones have to be downloaded with the player.

In April 2006, Michael Eisner, former Disney Chairman, was one of the investors (along with AOL Time-Warner) in the $12.5 million second round of financing for Veoh.

More recently, Veoh sued Universal Music, accusing the record label of not planning a copyright infringement lawsuit against them as it had done against Veoh's competitors.

Veoh has made content deals with several media companies, including CBS, Paramount, and Lionsgate. And unlike YouTube, Veoh has allowed users to post porn on its site.(:div3end:)

: Awful. Even with a fast broadband Internet access, pages take a lot time to be fully loaded.
