Dirty Jobs is the Discovery Channel series in its third year (2007) that celebrates working men and women (mostly men) who perform jobs that most people wouldn't dream of doing: hauling garbage, cleaning solid-waste tanks, throwing fish guts overboard to attract sharks.
The performance is done by Mike Rowe, the show creation who once sold products on cable's QVC channel. Dirty jobs are suggested from the show viewers. Rowe says Dirty Jobs is a cable reincarnation of what author George Plimpton did by taking on various jobs, including professional football and baseball, then writing about them.
